This Is For Real, Y'all

So recently I posted a note about my fantastic, handsome and generally useful dog, Ezra. (Read it here). After reading the blog, my friend Jenny made a comment about this website:
eternal-earthbound-pets.com

I spent some time on the site and after a while realized that these people are serious. Very serious. I thought about calling them, but have not quite figured out what I would ask. I personally do not have a clue about where I stand regarding pre or post millenialism. But some folks think they know exactly what is going to happen, how it is going to happen and even when it is going to happen. Interesting that scripture tells us it will "come like a thief in the night," but I suppose that is another post for another time.

I find it sad that a web site like this actually exists. I wish I could have a conversation with Chrisitians who put "In case of Rapture. . . " bumper stickers on their cars. I would tell them that they are going about it the wrong way- graciously, of course. I would express my concern that this was not the model Jesus used to show and share the message of God's love.

Instead of relationships, we have terse comments that supposedly encapture the entirety of the Christian message. Instead of focusing on the primary issue of our need for Christ and His unrelenting mercy, we use scare tactics and fear to do what? Inspire people to love God? It does not make sense. It makes me want to karate chop somebody in the head. Seriously. So now there's a website developed by Atheists to rescue our dogs and cats after we leave them behind.

And what of the Message, that beautiful, appealing and true Message?

Needless to say, Ezra is on his own.

  1. hey Beth! I read your blog but am a first time commenter (I think?) Oh my goodness that website can't be serious!!!! That is unreal. We have 2 big hairy dogs and I am in a constant state of swiffering and vacuuming. Thank goodness for backyards! Ezra sure is cute and I have to say I am so thankful for my dogs now that BellaRose is older. She loves on them so much!

  3. So unbelievable. What I really wonder is, who does this? People must. It says they're active in 22 states and it's just hard for me to believe there are even 22 people who would have need of their services.
Thanks for sharing it and your thoughts about it. I think you can trust God with Ezra in case of rapture...
