Herby Goodness

Old Ez sure is handsome, don't you think?

Anyway. . .

Gardening requires incredible planning, hard work, sweat and dirty hands, but the payoff is definitely worth it. Over the weekend, Chris and I decided this was the year to build the raised bed we had always considered. After a trip to Lowe's for lumber, manure, soil conditioner and plants we began our project. Initially, we wanted to do a pretty large bed, but I became overwhelmed by the prospect. So we have started with a reasonable bed- 4x6. After a few setbacks (dirt filled with a very angry ant colony being the main one) our bed was completed. We are growing basil, thyme, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, chamomile, cilantro, parsley, and chives, zucchini and a variety of tomatoes. Bring your own meat, we'll have the sides!

Step 1: Assemble the box

Step 2: Insert dirt, then remove dirt because it is, in fact, an angry ant colony.

Step 3: Fill with mulch, manure, soil conditioner and mix in with the dirt.

Step 4: Hello, ladies. Thank you for your patience.

Step 5: Insert lovely herbs and seeds into the hand raked (I'm talking the little rake- it's a long story. . .) soil.

Step 6: Appreciate the beauty of these plants. Don't you just love basil?

You should smell this garden. The aroma is beyond words.

PS- Thanks for giving in Chris! And thanks for your help. The bed is lovely!

  3. It is lovely! Nice Job, Chris! We are in the process of growing a little garden too. I am impressed that you guys built a raised bed, though. I can't wait to check it out...and have some of those tomatoes.
